Can out-of-school education help shape responsible consumers?
In November, at the KIDOT Festival in Thessaloniki, our partners Stimmuli for Social Change led an engaging and thought-provoking workshop for children, aimed at fostering sustainable thinking and responsible consumer habits from an early age. The interactive session focused on key themes such as sustainability, food waste, and mindful consumption, encouraging young participants to reflect on important questions:
– Do we often buy more food than we need?
-What does food waste look like in our homes?
-What small changes can we make to reduce our impact?
In this informal and creative learning environment, children explored these issues with enthusiasm and curiosity. They were given the space to express their ideas, think critically about daily choices, and connect their personal habits with broader environmental challenges. The workshop demonstrated the power of non-formal education in cultivating awareness, inspiring action, and shaping the next generation of responsible, conscious consumers. Children left not only with new knowledge, but with a deeper sense of agency, proof that even the youngest among us can contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable future.
